What is "Blue Dot Mission"?

「藍點任務」到底是什麼呢？

此計畫目的是為了清理台灣東北角沿海的大量垃圾，並幫助我們北部海域變得更藍更乾淨！

每當我們完成清理一個地點，我們便會在地圖上放置一個藍點，代表此沿岸、海域已經被我們整理完成！

- 藍點任務的起源 -

藍點任務 是由ㄧ位長居在台灣的加拿大人Nigel Anderson、以及一位美國人JJ McCaulla，所發起的淨灘計畫。身為潛水教練的Nigel，發現台灣東北角沿岸深受海洋垃圾的迫害。即使過去兩年半來，他們倆每個月招集年輕人來淨灘，但卻還是有清不完的垃圾...大多人無法想像我們的海洋污染到底有多嚴重，但是每天以海為伍的他們，深深體會到這些垃圾對於環境所帶來的影響。

此淨灘計畫最早是由「東北海岸淨灘計畫」延伸而來。每個月Nigel和JJ都會招集北部的青年一起來淨灘，結束後會請大家免費的飲料及他們自己手工做的冰淇淋。但由於疫情嚴峻，此計畫最後基於安全考量被迫終止。然而，人們對海洋的迫害並無停止，甚至是每況愈下。在這樣的情況下，我們又何嘗能夠停止淨灘呢？

於是「藍點任務」就此誕生了！藉由他們的手工甜點及大家的募款贊助，我們將利用這些金費繼續清理我們的海岸，並且透過教育活動，讓更多人能夠認識海洋的生態及變遷。

Blue Dot Mission is a cleanup project for the North East coast of Taiwan! 

-- "For each location that we make blue again, we will put a blue dot on the map which represent a clean coast!"--

The founders of Blue Dot, JJ McCaulla and Nigel Anderson, are expats who live in Taiwan as diving coach/environmental ambassadors.  In the past two and a half year, they have encouraged hundreds of people to join in their monthly beach/coast cleanup events! As a reward, they’ve offered people who join the cleaning with their homemade ice cream and desserts. However, due to the recent outbreak of Covid in Taiwan, people are forbidden to travel. Thus, they have been cleaning the coast by themselves ever since. And if you're familiar with the ocean pollution in Taiwan, you'd know that two people are not enough! And they have lost lots of support over the time because of the current situation. However, luckily, there has been a few people finding time to join in these cleanups and the progress has been accelerated because of your support!

Our goal is to make our coast blue again, we hope to use the money to improve and sustain the quality of the North East Coast of Taiwan. So people will stop getting hurt from running on the beach, or swimming/diving in the ocean. And the corals and species in the north can have a better living environment.
